The Royal Tern is a big tern, discovered strictly in coastal areas. Feeds in open ocean and saltwater bays, the place it flies excessive above the water in search of small fish. Rests on seashores, typically in teams with different species. (from Birds of the World)
SIMILAR SPECIES
Separated from many terns by giant measurement; solely barely smaller than Caspian. Search for the thinner orange invoice (often not deep purple) and shaggier crest in contrast with Caspian. Additionally, brow whiter than Caspian Tern within the nonbreeding season; this will present as early as midsummer.

PERSONAL OBSERVATION ANECDOTES
In Costa Rica we noticed Royal Terns blended in with Laughing Gulls and a few Sandwich Terns whereas on the boat tour on the mouth of the Tárcoles River.
