The Boat-billed Heron is a weird nocturnal heron of mangroves and freshwater marshes in tropical lowlands; spends the daytime roosting in timber, usually in free teams. Comes out at night time to feed alongside the sting of lakes and rivers. Simply recognized by enormous ‘boat invoice’ and large brown eyes. Grownup has black crown, pinkish breast, and silvery grey again; immature sample related, however plumage duller and browner total. (from Birds of the World)
SIMILAR SPECIES
The Boat-billed Heron is recognized by its broad, thick invoice, its average dimension, black cap, white brow and cheeks, and gray again and wings. It can’t be confused with some other hen.

In Costa Rica we noticed two Boat-billed Herons. One close to the Arenal Observatory and one alongside the Tárcoles River..
